Cecilia Nina Bowes-Lyon, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne GCVO GCStJ (née Cavendish-Bentinck; 11 September 1862 – 23 June 1938) was the mother of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and maternal grandmother and godmother of Queen Elizabeth II.
Cecilia was born at Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire, England, the fifth child of Charles William Frederick Cavendish-Bentinck, 5th Duke of Portland, and Louisa Frances Augusta Cavendish-Bentinck (née Harley). She was educated at home by governesses.
In 1881, Cecilia married Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. They had ten children together, including Elizabeth The Queen Mother, who was born in 1900.
Cecilia was a devoted mother and wife. She was also a keen gardener and embroiderer. She was also deeply religious.
